Unnamed Label is a young independent record label based in the United States. The label is managed by its three founders: Marcus Gutierrez (Mark.Nine), Tomas Borosko (Five Step Path) and Ryan Parmer (Phasen). UL is the sister label of I/O Netlabel, a free online label that has been around since 2006. Ideas to initiate a record label based on fantastic new musical material that was being sent to our inboxes started in 2008 and by the beginning of 2009, our first release, Friendly Strangers, kicked off the start of the label and the new years.
Why us?
Unnamed Label is different than other labels. You can rest assure that when you purchase an MP3 or CD album of an artist that is with our label, they’ll receive a good majority of that amount. Ideally, we would love to give them everything, but we need to keep a small amount for hosting and general maintenance fees. In fact, if you want to find out a little more information on how we pay our artists, you can click here.
You can listen to each album and song in its entirety. No 30-second song previews here. Thanks to Band Camp, you can download all of our music at the click of a button in any format you could possibly desire, from standard MP3 to FLAC, AAC, OGG and ALAC. For more information on download formats, click here. If physical formats are your preferred choice of medium, some of our releases are available as a CD (We’d LOVE to do vinyl records, but production costs are way out of our league). CDs pressed are in a limited amount per release. Some of our albums are also available on iTunes and Amazon.
Different from the big guys
There’s a lot of confusion going around about the nature of buying CDs or music in general and what you can and can’t do with it. When you purchase our music (whether it’s by CD or MP3 or FLAC), you’re free to play back that album for your personal enjoyment or the enjoyment of others or in a public setting (Think coffee shop, restaurant, etc.). You’re even free to include the music in a personal project. There is no need to pay royalties or licensing fees. However, for all commercial uses, please contact the artist first before you do anything else. You’re also free to create back-ups of the physical or digital format and rip the music to any other format you desire. Tell your friends or loved ones. Pass ‘em the link. We just kindly ask that you don’t upload the album to file sharing websites, torrents, web servers, P2P, etc.
